Education and Teaching Experience
Brian Kaplan taught his first music lesson in high school when his band teacher had to leave the classroom and needed someone he could count on to work with the other students.
After high school, Brian received his Bachelor's degree from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, his Advanced Certificate of teaching from Saint Rose, and his Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from SUNY Plattsburgh.
Since then, Brian has also taught instrumental lessons on trombone, guitar, bass guitar, piano, trumpet, baritone, tuba, flute, percussion, saxophone, French horn, bass clarinet, and Bb clarinet.
For the last thirteen years, Brian has worked as a band director and classroom music teacher in the New York public school system. He has conducted both middle school and high school concert band, middle school and high school jazz ensemble, jazz improvisation, jazz history, music technology, middle school general music, composition, arranging, and songwriting. He was a guest conductor for the Green County All-County Jazz Band and has prepared and accompanied students for the annual NYSSMA festival.
